Meet the Artist

Eva De Artist about the artist in California. Dansk kunstner

My name is
Eva De Nardi.

I’m a Danish/American artist. I’ve lived in California, NYC, and now Copenhagen, Denmark. I paint in a colorful, detailed, and dramatic style.

I use art to explore and express the complexity of the female experience.

My paintings are vibrant, dynamic, and full of life. They carry a raw energy and reflect the inner tension between the woman, the body, and the world.

My art isn’t just something to look at- it looks back, challenges, and demands its place.

A little about my background

I grew up going to Waldorf (Rudolph Steiner) Schools in California, where a child’s creativity is nourished and celebrated through artistic expression. That’s where I found a passion for drawing and painting early on. I studied art at Krabbesholm Højskole and Holbæk Kunsthøjskole in Denmark, and then minored in visual arts at Fordham University in NYC.

I have a Bachelor’s in Psychology, and recently finished my master’s degree in Cognition and Communication here in Copenhagen.

I wrote my Master’s thesis on the topic of the “male gaze.” The male gaze is a feminist theory describing how women are objectified and sexualized in media by their portrayal as passive embodiments of the male fantasy. My academic work addressed how the male gaze in media socializes girls and women to internally assume the position of this symbolically male voyeur, subconsciously valuing their physical form as their most important attribute.

My paintings live in the tension between being looked at and being truly seen- between objectification and power.

They echo the questions at the core of my academic research: What does it mean to be visible as a woman? To be gazed at, judged, desired- and still hold the power to look back?
